Why is Cowaramup so special?
We know that not everyone wants to move to Cowaramup - and to be honest - that's completely fine. As the region has grown, Cowaramup has maintained a vibrant, village atmosphere, and the community has retained it's strong community spirit and friendly faces.
We have great memories of growing up here, and our kids would tell you the same.
As kids and our kids there are memories of catching gilgies in the local creek; playing cricket and footy on the oval; hacking around town with friends on bikes; the feeling of pride the first tme up one side and down the other of the "table top" jump at the BMX track; first day of school at Cowaramup Primary and santa throwing lollies out of the plane at the Cowaramup District Club Christmas Show.
If you have kids, or are thinking of starting a family, there is no better place for them to grow up than here.
Now that the kids have grown up, apart from the memories, Cowaramup means even more.
In summer Cowaramup it's about jumping in the car and heading to Cowaramup Bay for a swim on a hot afternoon, BBQ's with delicious meats courtesy of Cowaramup's famous local butcher, relaxing on the verandah with a glass of the region's famous wine and taking in amazing sunsets and catching fish and crayfish off the bay. (You'll have to find your own "Secret Spot" though!)
Autumn is about walks around town and down the Rails to Trails, jumping on the bike for a bit of exercise and riding past word class wineries and cows munching in the paddocks, pottering in the vege patch and working out what to do with the three dozen capsicums that ripen all at the same time or the bounty of figs from the local fig tree.
Winter means nights by the fire with a glass or two of the region's reds, accompanied by delicious cheeses from local gourmet store Margaret Riviera. It means laying in bed at night and listening to the thunder crack overhead and the rain falling on the roof. The surrounding paddocks are revitalised with lush grass and the cows spend their days munching away.
Spring shows nature at it's best. Lambs bounding around in the paddocks and amazing displays of wildflowers. The kids hang up their footy boots for the season and get out their cricket bats once again.
The best of Cowaramup is enjoyed all year round - the friendliness of the community, the caring nature of residents, the safety and security of a small country town, being able to walk to grab the paper or milk in a minute or two rather than jumping in the car.
So, Cowaramup is not for everyone, and some just don't see or understand the beauty of the place. But for those who look or already know, Cowaramup is a fantastic place to call home.
